Lahore pigeon is a breed of fancy pigeons which is more famous for its remarkable size and calm nature. The breed was initially raised in Lahore, the province of Pakistan. All the domesticated pigeons are offspring of “Rock Pigeons”.
Fancy pigeons are domesticated form of wild-rock dove. They are produced by pigeon fanciers for numerous qualities including size, color, shape, and temperament. These birds are often displayed at pigeon-shows, funfairs and other livestock shows.

Lahore Pigeon Size

Lahore Pigeon is usually a large bird with height approximately 10.5 inches and length around 11.5 inches; whereas the bird measures around 5.5 inches from shoulder to shoulder.

Color Patterns

The color patterns of Lahore Pigeon are also uncommon. The base-color is white, with a subordinate color starting at the juncture of beak & wattle, and spreading in a curve above the eyes and across the back & wings. Both the hindquarters and tail are white. While selecting the breed, more attention is given at the quality of head, neck, and wing patterns.
The neck of the bird is greatly feathered up to the broad chest. The cheeks are plump, and beak is broad and strong. The feet and legs of Lahore Pigeon are feathered heavily looking the bird wearing thick stockings.
Lahore Pigeon is commonly produced in various colors comprising blue bar, red, blue, checkered, black, and brown.

Temperament

Lahore Pigeons are very calm and gentle birds having good disposition and they can be controlled swiftly.

Origins and Popularity

Lahore Pigeon was also bred in Iran for a long time from where the bird was exported to Germany in 1880s and it got popularity among the pigeon fans in 1960s. Being the most colorful pigeons, Lahore Pigeons are commonly found in Shiraz, a city of Fars (Iran). These attractive pigeons from ancient Persia were formerly produced for their meat, but now they are bred for their good-looking plumage and colorful designs. Their gentle and calm temperament also make them delightful domestic pets.
